Knowing One’s Way Around Nature Stock Photography

Many people do not have any idea what nature stock photography is. This type of photography is actually dedicated to the business of selling and buying photographs online. The focus of this type of photography is pictures of landscapes, wildlife, plants and other natural scenes. Nature stock photography goes by several names sometimes nature photo stock archives, a nature image bank and a nature photo bank. The reality is that most of stock photography sites or databases have categories which buyers and sellers may choose to place their pictures in. Wildlife nature photography is one of the more popular categories of stock photography sites since these show action shots which are usable for many purposes.

Photographs That Sell Well

Many photographs in a nature stock photography site may sell well while others may not. Since the aim of most photographers is to sell their photos, concern about how saleable the photos are is tantamount. Nature stock photography sites usually like to have pictures which are sharp and clear. Less noise is preferable for most of not all pictures in a nature photography site. Large photographs are also preferred by many buyers and sites. This means that photographs lesser than 3 megapixels may be undesirable since these may present a limit to editing.

Other pictures that sell well may also need models or people in them. A release form is necessary to submit photographs with people in them to the nature stock photography sites unless they are classified under editorial pictures which mean they are newsworthy pictures. Some photos may also require certifications with regards to the age of the model as well as the release form which the model needs to sign.

Getting Paid

The concept of having one’s photographs bought at a nature stock photography database or site is quite appealing but there are certain facts that one need to know before submitting anything. Many of the more popular nature stock photography sites and archives start with a minimum of .25 cents for each picture that is bought. This amount is accumulated in a monthly basis and then paid to the seller. The catch of many of these nature stock photography databases is that they have certain limits when it comes to amounts that they deposit or remit to the photographs’ contributors. Although smaller amount under the limit are moved forward to the next month, if the photographer submits only a few pictures to the nature stock photography database, this means that the possibility of achieving the limit may take a few months.
